No.1 Old Coastguard Cottages
Escape to No.1 Old Coastguards, a short ferryboat ride, row or paddle across the Yealm Estuary from Newton Ferrers Harbour. For 3 days or more, use this 3 bedroomed cottage as a retreat from which to while away the hours, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, or just sitting on the windowsill and reading a book with a view. The cottage, originally built in 1835 to spot smugglers of contraband, has been transformed into a rustic and charming home away from home. Access by foot (30 minutes or so walk down unspoiled National Trust pathway and woodland) or dinghy or ferry ride and enjoy the seclusion of this unique location.

New terrace, thankfully smooth under foot
Lovingly exposed wall showing lime work. Done summer 2024 by Ants!
The Cottage has been newly lime rendered, the first time it has been done since 1835! This means that it is warm and cosy. The terrace has been replaced with a lovely smooth surface to be kind on your feet. It is a truly magical place.
